Companions & Droid Types

How companion droids work in Star Wars: Droid Tycoon — Worker, Astromech, and Battle bonuses, mission speed, and which companion to equip when.

Updated June 5, 2026

How companions work

You carry one droid with you as a companion, and it does more than follow you around: its type determines what bonus you get, and the bonus scales with the companion’s rarity and version. A Beskar Legendary companion gives a dramatically bigger bonus than a Base Common of the same type.

(The official bonus names aren’t displayed anywhere in-game — the community works from observed effects.)

The three type bonuses

TypeCompanion bonus
WorkerBuild-speed head start — droids you build at the three build stations (one per section) start already completed by a percentage
AstromechPickaxe levels — better harvesting, which feeds directly into Scrap Station income
BattleBonus health (percentage) — for stormtrooper fights and staying alive on the map

What pickaxe levels actually do

Your pickaxe is a tool, not a weapon stat — two concrete effects:

  • Speed up droid builds — hitting a droid that’s being built removes build time per hit (around 10 seconds a hit, scaling with pickaxe level)
  • Break scrap faster — higher levels do more damage to scrap piles, so fewer hits per payout at the Scrap Station

Pickaxe levels can also be purchased on the left side of the Cantina with credits, separate from the chip upgrades at the back — so an Astromech companion effectively saves you money there.

Better droids finish missions faster

From our own testing (treat as preliminary): higher-quality droids complete missions faster. A Beskar R7 finishes the final Astromech mission in 6:00 flat, while lesser droids take 6:40. Over a session of chip-farming runs that compounds into a real edge.

One catch: the mission slot locks while a mission runs — you can’t swap the droid out mid-mission. Send a strong droid you won’t need for anything else; never the one you’re about to upgrade or roll on.

The Mythic companions

The three Mythics each carry a unique companion ability on top of their type:

  • BB-8 (Astromech) — doubles Upgrade Chips from selling droids; the backbone of the chip-farming meta
  • Mister Bones (Battle) — 2x damage, the stormtrooper-farming pick
  • IG-11 (Battle) — grants a shield after buying a droid from the trade row

Which companion to equip when

  • Selling droids / chip runs → BB-8, no contest
  • Running missions → your highest rarity+version Astromech (speed bonus + pickaxe levels)
  • Building out after a rebirth → your best Worker, so rebuilt droids start partially complete
  • Stormtrooper farming → Mister Bones, or your best Battle droid for the health buffer
  • Don’t forget: the free daily Pit Droid roll upgrades whatever companion you have equipped — so equip your most valuable upgrade candidate before rolling, then switch back.
